It’s no longer enough to just get a postgraduate degree. To succeed in today’s fast-evolving world, hands-on learning experiences, access to groundbreaking research, strong job prospects, and the chance to be part of a vibrant international community are just as important. Whether it’s joining a sustainability project tackling climate change, contributing to AI research, or launching a startup before graduation, a master’s or PhD degree needs to be relevant and future-focused.
That’s why choosing the right university and programme is more important than ever.
Strategically located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa, the University of Cyprus (UCY) — established in 1989 — stands out. UCY is proving that a young, ambitious institution can not only compete globally, but also excel. It’s earning recognition for its academic quality, cutting-edge research and strong employability outcomes — making it a rising star among young universities internationally.
In the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, UCY moved to the 401–500 bracket globally, improving from the 501–600 range just the year before. This achievement reflects UCY’s serious commitment to academic excellence and its status as the highest-ranked university in Cyprus.
Rankings aren’t just numbers — they show how a university performs across key areas like teaching, research, and global outlook. UCY scores particularly well, thanks to its focus on high-quality teaching and research with real-world impact. In fact, the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy’s 2024 Global Rankings of Academic Subjects placed UCY among the world’s top institutions in eight scientific fields, including Automation & Control, Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Political Sciences.

Preparing graduates for success
UCY is committed to equipping students with the knowledge, skills and experience needed for long-term success. With 8 faculties and 22 departments, it offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (Masters and PhDs), serving nearly 7,000 students. While the MBA Programme requires at least three years of work experience, other master’s programmes are open to students without this requirement, making postgraduate study more accessible.
Such world-class education needs a world-class setting. With UCY’s continuous investment in its state-of-the-art campus, this means students and staff have access to modern labs, digital learning tools and advanced research infrastructure. These are crucial for innovation and discovery, whether students are building prototypes, analysing data or working on interdisciplinary research.
To further support that, UCY hosts a number of research units and centres focused on tackling real-world challenges through innovation. These centres are key in strengthening the university’s contribution to society, which is one of its major strategic targets. Approximately 900 academic and administrative staff are involved in delivering a high-quality education and guiding students every step of the way.
A university’s impact is often measured by how well its graduates do after they leave. At UCY, student success is a top priority. According to recent data, around 80% of UCY graduates are employed full-time, highlighting the strength of its programmes and their relevance to the job market.
This level of employability is no mere luck. UCY maintains strong links with industry to ensure that students can gain practical, career-ready skills. The Centre for Entrepreneurship helps students connect with the business world and explore ideas. At the same time, the Career Centre provides personalised support through career counselling, internship placements and job opportunities.

Gateway to global impact
UCY may be Cyprus’s best, but it has ambitions that extend far beyond the country. With a clear international outlook, the university actively builds collaborations across Europe and beyond. It is a member of more than 60 international university networks and organisations — at both institutional and departmental levels — including the Network of Universities of European Capitals (UNICA), the Young European Research Universities Network (YERUN), the SGroup – Universities in Europe network (SGroup), the International Association of Universities (IAU), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), and the European Universities Association (EUA).
This global engagement is reflected in its participation in major international programmes, including the Erasmus+ and the Erasmus+ International Programmes, which allows students to study or train abroad. These are great experiences that expose them to different cultures and ways of thinking, helping to shape open-minded, adaptable professionals who are prepared to work and lead anywhere in the world.
Adding to this global experience is UCY’s unique location. Cyprus, while being an EU country, is at the gateway between Europe, Asia, and Africa — a setting that has shaped it into one of the world’s most vibrant, multicultural societies today. For international students, this often means a more seamless settling in period, dynamic campus life and enviably convenient access to the rest of these regions for travel, networking and the pursuit of a bright future ahead.
