Effective July 15, 2025, the UK Government has launched a major update to its immigration system by introducing digital eVisas for most Pakistani nationals applying under study and work-related visa categories. This change eliminates the need for physical visa stickers in passports for eligible applicants.
What Is an eVisa?
An eVisa is a secure, digital record of a person’s immigration status in the UK. It includes details of their visa conditions and can be accessed through a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) online account. This digital system is designed to streamline the immigration process, enhance security, and simplify travel and verification procedures.
Who Is Affected?
The eVisa rollout currently applies to main applicants under the following visa categories:
- Students, including short term study for 11 months
- Global Business Mobility routes (specifically, Senior or Specialist Worker, Graduate Trainee, UK Expansion Worker, Service Supplier, Secondment Worker)
- Global Talent
- International Sportsperson
- Skilled Worker (including Health and Care)
- Temporary Work routes (specifically, Charity Worker, Creative Worker, Government Authorised Exchange, International Agreement, and Religious work routes)
- Youth Mobility Scheme
Applicants can link their passport or travel document to their UKVI account, making it easier to travel and prove their status to employers, landlords (in England), and other third parties using the view & prove service.
What Stays the Same?
- Immigration status and visa conditions remain unchanged.
- Dependents and applicants under other visa categories (e.g., visitor visas) will still receive a physical visa sticker.
- Those with existing valid visa stickers do not need to take any action.
Looking Ahead
The UK Government plans to expand the eVisa system to all visa categories in the future, creating a fully digital, secure, and efficient immigration experience for all applicants.
