A year ago, North Carolina high school student Christian McGhee uttered the words “illegal alien” in his English class. The words were not even directed at anyone, but nonetheless it earned him a three-day suspension from Davidson Central High and a black mark on his school record. The McGhees filed a lawsuit against the district and last week Christian received an apology, a clean slate and $20,000. Chalk one up for common sense and linguistic accuracy.
