July 9, 2025 – The Quebec Ministry of Immigration, Francization and Integration (MIFI) has announced that it has reached the maximum number of family reunification sponsorship applications it will accept for certain categories. As a result, no new applications will be accepted for these categories until June 25, 2026.
Who Is Affected
Effective immediately, MIFI will not accept new sponsorship applications for the following family members:
- Spouse
- Common-law partner
- Conjugal partner
- Dependent children aged 18 or older
This cap applies only to applications destined for the province of Quebec. Sponsorship applications for other provinces in Canada remain unaffected.
Any application received by MIFI after the cap was reached will be returned without processing, and no fees will be charged.
Next Steps
- Individuals whose applications were returned may reapply when the next intake period opens.
- MIFI has stated that it will announce its next decision on the management of family reunification applications by June 25, 2026.
