The 287(g) program, which trains local law enforcement officers to identify illegal aliens who wind up in their custody for other offenses, has been an enormously successful tool for removing criminal aliens from the country — which is why legislators in Annapolis are doing their best to kill the program in Maryland. FAIR spoke with one Maryland sheriff whose department uses 287(g) who contends the reasons given for the Legislature’s push to end the program are bogus.
