The battle among House Republicans over whether to allow proxy voting for new parents is set to come to a head on Tuesday.
The Rules Committee advanced a procedural rule to set up that vote on Tuesday as GOP leaders play hardball to defeat the proposal being pushed by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.). The House is expected to vote on the measure at 1:30 p.m.
The gambit by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has drawn the ire of House Democrats, who have bashed the “outrageous” move. Some Republicans have even said they will oppose the measure, bucking GOP leadership
And on the Senate floor, Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) has been speaking for over 16 hours in an effort to combat President Trump’s agenda. The New Jersey Democrat has slammed the president’s tax plans, emphasizing potential cuts to Social Security and Medicaid.

Congress also has a number of high-profile hearings on Tuesday. The Senate Armed Services Committee held a confirmation hearing for Lt. Gen. John D. Caine (Ret), Trump’s pick for chair of Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Task Force on Declassification of Federal Secrets has a hearing on JFK files at 2 p.m. American filmmaker Oliver Stone — whose political thriller, “JFK,” made waves more than 30 years ago — will testify.
