The government of Japan has revealed a new plan, “Zero Plan for Illegal Residents for the Safety and Security of the People.”
According to the announcement, the plan is, in part, a response to the growing concern amongst the Japanese public about foreign visitors who overstay their visa or do not otherwise follow the rules.
The Zero Illegal Aliens Plan is divided into three stages:
- immigration,
- residence control and refugee screening, and
- departure and repatriation
The forthcoming JESTA program, which is now expected to go into effect as early as 2025, is also a part of the “Zero Illegal Aliens Plan for the Safety and Security of the People.”
