The Democratic National Committee (DNC) blasted President Trump for getting involved in the conflict between Israel and Iran after he criticized the fighting.
“We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f— they’re doing,” Trump said as he departed Washington for a NATO conference in the Netherlands.
“So then why the f— did you get us involved?” the DNC wrote in a post on X. The exchange comes as many Democrats appear to be embracing profanity to tap into the party’s anger and parry GOP rhetoric.
Trump on Monday night had announced a ceasefire plan between Israel and Iran, expressing confidence that the conflict would be a “12 day war” and that the pause in fighting would hold. The development came just days after the U.S. stepped into the conflict by hitting three nuclear sites in Iran over the weekend.
But Trump on Tuesday lamented that both adversaries appeared to have violated ceasefire terms with continued fighting overnight.
“They [Iran] violated it, but Israel violated it too … I’m not happy with Israel. When I say, ‘OK, now you have 12 hours,’ you don’t go out in the first hour and just drop everything you have on them. So, I’m not happy with them, I’m not happy with Iran either,” Trump said, his public criticism of Israel marking a change from his regular position of praise for the ally.
He later posted on his Truth Social account that the ceasefire was still in effect and that “nobody will be hurt.”
The Democrats on Tuesday also shared Trump’s Monday pledge to NBC News that the ceasefire would last “forever,” highlighting the new developments and commenting “oh.”
Democrats have been largely critical of Trump’s moves to strike the Iranian nuclear sites, though the president has touted the effort as a success. Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) filed an article of impeachment against Trump on Tuesday, accusing him of failing to notify or seek authorization from Congress before launching the strikes.
