As announced earlier, on July 16, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has reopened the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) for the 2025 intake. Beginning July 28, 2025, IRCC will issue invitations to apply to up to 10,000 potential sponsors over a two-week period.
Who Will Receive Invitations?
This year’s intake will be limited to individuals who submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020 and have not yet received an invitation. IRCC will not be accepting new interest to sponsor forms in 2025.
Potential sponsors are advised to:
- Check the email address they used in 2020, including junk and spam folders.
- Monitor their inboxes between July 28 and mid-August 2025 for an invitation to apply.
How to Apply
Those invited to apply can submit their sponsorship applications electronically through either the:
- Permanent Residence Portal, or
- Representative Permanent Residence Portal (for authorized representatives)
Alternative Option: Super Visa
Applicants who are not invited this year may consider the Super Visa as an alternative. The Super Visa is a multiple-entry visa valid for up to 10 years, allowing parents and grandparents to stay in Canada for up to 5 years at a time, with the option to extend their stay by up to 2 additional years without leaving the country.
