Effective September 1, 2025, the procedure for European Union citizens applying to reside in Belgium for more than three months will undergo significant changes.
From that date forward, EU nationals must submit a complete application during their initial visit to the local municipality. This includes:
- Proof of EU citizenship
- Documentation supporting their intended residence status, such as:
- Employment or self-employment contracts
- Evidence of job-seeking activities
- Enrollment confirmation from an educational institution
- Proof of sufficient financial resources
- Documentation showing family ties to an EU or Belgian citizen
Applications submitted without all required documents will not be considered.
Once all conditions are met and the application is approved, the applicant will be granted the right of residence and issued an EU residence card.
