“Given the complexity of the global supply chain, it is important that major trade policies are developed with input from industry experts who understand how such changes may affect local economies, jobs, and the availability of everyday goods. Without thoughtful coordination, broad tariff measures could have unintended effects on trade flows, consumer prices, and supply chain stability.
“With this in mind, the Supply Chain Federation has called on California Governor Gavin Newsom to establish a California Supply Chain Blue Ribbon Commission to bring together experts from labor, business, logistics, and technology to develop a bold, actionable roadmap to strengthen California’s supply chain infrastructure. This would be a significant first step towards establishing a blueprint for strengthening the reliability and resiliency of our supply chain nationwide.
“Furthermore, additional policies that threaten the stability and reliability of our supply chain, including ‘Indirect Source Rules’ being considered in states across the country, need to be exposed for both their lack of promised positive impact on the environment as well as their additional negative consequences for local economies.
“As we move forward, we call on all levels of government—state and federal—to work collaboratively with industry and labor to rebuild trust and advance common-sense trade and supply chain policies that protect American jobs, support local business, keep goods moving, and ensure that life for everyday people is affordable. The Supply Chain Federation stands ready to partner in this critical work. The time is now.”
