Secretary of State Marco Rubio is testifying Wednesday morning before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on the State Department’s 2026 posture.
Rubio, who defended the Trump administration’s foreign policy at a Senate hearing Tuesday, has been a major force behind President Trump’s efforts to broker a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine as well as a ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.
In the State Department’s budget request, federal funding for international development would be significantly reduced. The move comes months after the Trump administration largely dismantled the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Rubio faced intense questioning from his former colleagues during his appearance before the Senate Appropriations Committee. He will also speak before the House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday afternoon.
The House Foreign Affairs hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
