The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold hearings Thursday for President Trump’s nominees to serve as ambassadors to Canada, Mexico and Japan.
If confirmed, Peter Hoekstra, a longtime former lawmaker from Michigan and former diplomat, will become the Canadian ambassador amid a quickly changing trade war spurred by Trump’s tariffs.
Ronald Johnson, an Army veteran and career CIA official, was tapped to be Trump’s ambassador to Mexico. He was ambassador to El Salvador in Trump’s first term.
And George Glass, a former investment banker and diplomat, is poised to become the top U.S. envoy to Japan. He was ambassador to Portugal throughout Trump’s first term.
